Commemorating 20 years since Jason tragically lost his life while surfing off Merimbula, students from Eden Marine High have come together every year since to celebrate wind and waves and pay tribute to Jason's love of the ocean.
"It's been 20 years now and I know you guys won't know him, but I went to school with Bushy and he was the nicest guy, always trying to help everyone out and he just loved the ocean," music teacher and avid surfer Sam Mills told the group.
"So to win the Bushy Trophy is something that's pretty special."
Students were met by calm conditions on Monday, but by the final day on Wednesday pleasant conditions paved the way for some tidy rolling two-footers.
Organisers said they couldn't have been happier with the conditions that included near-perfect water temps for everyone hitting the surf.
A small group of teachers were on hand to oversee the students riding the waves and said it had originally started as a surf competition, but in the 20-year history has developed into a three-day enjoyment of the surf as one of the school's end-of-year activities.
There is still an element of competition, but the major award is now handed out on the combination of energy, attitude and ability in the water with the event wrapping up on Wednesday.
The 2019 Bushy Trophy going to Annie Gilbert. Annie was also presented the Take 3 for the Sea award for her dedication to keeping the beach tidy, cleaning up any litter she spotted.
Runner-up was Emily Hodkinson with teachers saying it was hard to separate the two.
In fact, the girls swept the prize pool this year with teacher Jane Hornsby saying it was great to see the endeavour and commitment the girls had put in, while there had been a good mix of males and females through the three days.
Other award winners included Eulalie Pascal who was presented the Joanna Defay prize, while Eliza Marks won the junior performance and rising youngster Lucy Gilbert accepted the grommet award.
Uluka Richardson received the "Charger" award for someone with plenty of enthusiasm, while Imogen Webster accepted the encouragement award.
Ms Hornsby and Mr Morgan also thanked Simon from the Merimbula Surf Shop and the Merimbula Sailboard Club who have donated prizes since the Bushy Trophy's start.
The two teachers also thanked Bernie Langford who was one of the founders of the event and the pair said they hoped it would continue to encourage a love of the water and promote surfers into the future.
