The program for Pambula's chamber choir Spirit Allegro, which includes the chance to sing along, is made up of carols and songs that reflect the different way Christmas has been interpreted over the years: from quiet contemplation to a reason to have a bawdy party and great food.
It explores the folk roots of some carols and will include five Australian carols written to combat the dominant European carols.
These carols include many references to Australian birds, flora, dry summer heat and when "smoke was on the yellow moon" which clearly has a strong resonance with the impact of the current bushfires.

"Apart from the amazing array of carols being performed by Spirit Allegro we will also be joined by Lumiere Recorder Ensemble and the Windsong Singers so this concert will be a great mixture of musical styles, textures and sounds for Christmas," David Francis, director of Spirit Allegro, said.
The performances are on Saturday, December 14 at Wolumla Memorial Hall, Wolumla at 2pm and on Sunday, December 15 at Nethercote Hall, Nethercote at 2pm.
Tickets will be on the door.
Also, on Sunday evening at Four Winds, near Bermagui, Canberra-based professional chamber choir Luminescence Chamber Singers will be giving a performance of Christmas music which is described as a moment of peace and calm before Christmas.
This is Luminescence's only performance on the South Coast this festive season.
Set in the beautiful resonance of the Windsong Pavilion this concert, performed by just eight singers, will transport the audience to a truly restful and magical place.
The audience will be invited to join in with some carols at the end of the event before enjoying mince pies and mulled wine to toast the festive season.
Luminescence perform on Sunday, December 15 at the Windsong Pavilion, Four Winds, Barragga Bay at 8pm.
Tickets are $40 and can be bought online or on the door.
