Marlin are now anticipated as the waters warm. Swarms of bait fish (slimy mackerel) remain draped along Far South Coast shores.

Club members are also reporting plentiful squid off Tura Headland as well as kingfish, no doubt attracted to the squid and bait fish. Morwong are plentiful and respond to bait, micro jigs and soft plastics. Snapper are back on the chew at our local reefs and when weather permits there have been good catches from all down the coast from Goalen Head, past Tathra, White Rock, Long Point, Haycock and south to Lennards and Boyds Tower.

Kingfish are reported at Mowarry and continue to prowl the Tathra wharf. At Merimbula calamari squid are available morning and evening. Best results from prawn-like slow sinking jigs. Luderick are running early morning and late afternoon. Double hook-ups are possible on artificial weed lures.

Good sand flathead are reported from north of Tathra near Gillards. Off Tathra itself, chinamen leatherjackets are prolific, especially in the deeper waters. Try 17 fathoms south of Turingal headland where although patchy there are some lovely fish. Others are off Bournda Island and Tura Headland.

Get prepared for the next prawn run close to Christmas. Best is the Merimbula channel down to Fishpen. Look for the run-out tide and when there is no moon.

School kingfish remain in the Merimbula Lake chasing good size garfish, lots of fun to catch but must be released when under size (65cm). Dusky flathead remain active at Mogareeka with lovely bream at the bridge and upstream beside the rock wall. Try soft plastics, metal vibes and of course live nippers. Practise catch and release with these fine fish.

Good dusky flathead and trevally are about in the Pambula channel, look for the deeper holes. When using bait, anchor and burley for best results.
