Club member Heather Sutterby reports fine albacore tuna fishing from Seamode at the continental shelf off Merimbula.
There are lots of bait fish (slimy mackerel) but also local swarms of chinamen leatherjackets so unfortunately it is not all plain sailing.
Snapper are back on the chew at our local reefs with good catches reported from all down the coast from Goalen Head, the Pinnacle, White Rock, Long Point, Haycock and south to Lennards and Boyds Tower. Try micro jigs.
Morwong have remained on the bite and respond to bait and soft plastics.
Kingfish are reported at Mowarry and continue to prowl the Tathra wharf.
At Merimbula calamari squid are available just after dark but it takes patience and effort to achieve good results.
With prawns running try a look-alike jig.
Luderick are back on the bite and double hook-ups possible on artificial weed lures, best timez dawn and just on dark.
A cool current from the south has washed over most of the flathead grounds and with water temperatures about 16 degrees, activity has certainly slowed down.
Luckily flathead have continued to bite well beside the Boyds Tower Reef and also north of Tathra near Cowdroys. Some good size sand flathead are reported.
Near the Kiah River entrance deeper holes in Quarantine Bay are producing Jewfish.
The annual prawning season is underway, try the Fishpen area at Merimbula during the dark with the run out tide.
In the estuaries tailor remain active early morning and evening.
Dusky flathead remain active at Mogereeka. Metal vibe jigs, soft plastics and bait are all effective.
When using bait, anchor and burley for best results.
Bream are a little shy, try further up the Bega River and the Merimbula back lake where nippers are the preferred bait.
Trevally abound in the Pambula Channel though mostly just legal size.
