In the early afternoon NSW Rural Fire Service community safety officer Marty Webster said there were "no fires in the Bega Valley", although crews were patrolling Pericoe near Eden as a precaution due to the fire that started there earlier in the week.

"But we're getting lots of calls from people concerned about smoke," he said.

"We've investigated six jobs this morning and they've all been smoke haze in the area."

He said this haze in the region was consistent with what the RFS expected due to the combination of north easterly winds and fires in the north.

Mr Webster said there was also a good chance dust was on its way to the Far South Coast from the west and would arrive later in the day and mix with the smoke.

He said people needed to be aware the smoke was coming from the north, those with respiratory conditions should seek medical advice due to the smoke and dust, and if people did see fire or columns of smoke they should report it to Triple Zero.

The RFS released a very high fire danger rating for the Far South Coast on Thursday, but Mr Webster said he expected conditions to ease for the rest of the week before potentially increase again next week.

He also said there was the potential for dry lightning strikes over the next few days.
