A man has been caught by police after hiding in bushland south of Pambula following a string of alleged car thefts and break-ins across the region.

Merimbula Police Station Sergeant Cliff Scarlett said soon after 1pm on Wednesday, November 13, an Eden man was arrested after an extensive police operation involving four detectives, three highway patrol officers and five general duties officers.
The 38-year-old is now helping police with their inquires into an alleged break and enter and stolen vehicle at Eden, a number of alleged car break and enters that took place in Sapphire Crescent, Merimbula Drive and Fishpen in Merimbula, and in relation to an alleged car theft from Fishpen which has since been recovered in Bega.
Sergeant Scarlett said this morning police spotted a man driving the vehicle allegedly stolen from Eden.
The driver then disappeared into bushland close to the Yowaka River and the Princes Hwy before being apprehended and is currently being held in custody.
Sergeant Scarlett reminded people to lock their cars and hide their valuables, saying that "bad people come to nice places".
