Fluctuating NBN speeds
We were lucky to get the NBN early, via fixed wireless. We had acceptable speeds of 40+ mbps download and 14mbps upload.

Over time the speed gradually dropped to less than 15 download and 3 upload. I started reporting to Telstra and keeping a log. We were transferred a different tower and had a temporary respite. A year ago, speeds had dropped below 3 download, often 0.
Many hours in the queue waiting for Telstra to respond, not being understood by an operator in India, we changed to Aussie Broadband. They were also at the mercy of NBN Corp, but I got five-minute responses and talked to someone speaking good English, in Australia!
I have now been told that NBN consider the service to be meeting their requirements if the speed is at least 6mbps. A figure that has not appeared in any document since we started the service.
Speeds continue to fluctuate. We recently managed to get another tower re-allocation, but nothing improved. The best the engineer got was 6.1mbps, yet that was not bad enough to report?
Why are customers paying for 25mbps services that don't deliver at any time, day or night, never mind at peak time?
The technology works, as is shown by our initial speeds. The issue is over-saturation of towers. Surely it is better to have fewer happy customers than reduce their service? Making it impossible to run a business. Please NBN, add clients as more infrastructure is implemented.

Right to be outraged
Rob Slazenger is right to be outraged about the standard of service that he and other users of the terrestrial network have received from the NBN. I sit here thankful that the darker recesses of Dignams Creek proved to be a bridge too far and I was told I would have to go on to the satellite. Installation proved to be somewhat fraught with difficulties but once up and running I could not be more pleased.
After the weak, unreliable and overpriced Telstra service I had before, my NBN link has been excellent. I get the 25 Mbs speed I was promised and far more monthly download, and in the nearly three years that I have been with Skymesh there has only been one day-long outage.
The flawed and too costly terrestrial program should have been halted when the Liberals came to power but the political cost would have been too high. Malcolm Turnbull cobbled together a fix but it was always going to be inadequate.
Customer service seems to be an oxymoron in the world of the Internet.

Farm bill farce
People will face more time in jail for peaceful protest than for grievous bodily harm if the government's Right to Farm Bill becomes law.
The bill provides for three-year prison terms for protesters while the penalty for permanently or seriously disfiguring another person is a maximum of two years. Is this really the sort of society the Coalition government wants us to become?
The government claims these dangerous laws are needed to protect farmers from trespassers, but the law already has those safeguards. The irony is that farmers may have the most to lose.
The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our democracy and must not be thrown away for political expediency.
