This district covers from the southern end of Sydney to the Victorian border, including Canberra. A big district, the current district governor is Gordon Matthews, a member of the Pambula Merimbula club.
The convention ran from October 11-13, with 189 registered delegates, Lions and partners attending.
A gala dinner was held on the Saturday evening, with entertainment by Frankie J Holden and Michelle Pettigrove.
The evening was enjoyed by all, joining in the singing and dancing and the host club offered many thanks to Frankie and Michelle, and their backup group.
During the course of the weekend Governor Gordon called for donations to assist the fire damaged regions in the north, and at last call $23,500 had been donated.
After the devastating fire at Tathra last year, the support was readily given.
Among a number of guest speakers, a highlight was Molly Campbell, who competed in the club's Youth of the Year program in 2013, and went on to become the national public speaking and overall winner.
Having kept in touch with her fellow contestants, she spoke on their successes in life, as well as her own as a lawyer and musician.
Other speakers were from Organ and Tissue Donation Service, Team Rubicon (former military personnel who support former servicemen and are somewhat like SES), Childhood Mobility and childhood cancer research.
During the opening ceremony, the Bega Valley Town Crier informed everyone what was happening, Welcome to Country was given by Benjamin Cruz, Mayor Kristy McBain welcomed the delegates, and 12 flags representing United Nations, Lions Lionesses and Leos, and representing this Constitutional area were presented by children from Merimbula Public School to Governor Gordon.
MC Darryl Hay took the opportunity to thank Malcolm Gaeth and his committee for the two years of preparation for this event.
A moving remembrance service was held on Sunday morning for the Lions who had passed away during the year.
The club thanks Club Sapphire for providing such a good venue.
