Reality of pools
The issue of pools not paying their way is nothing new. Having spent 40 years in local government finance at a senior level I saw time and time again this issue being raised. The reality is either close pools or accept that they are a service to the public that will always be subsidised from general revenue.

Revenue-raising
It looks like BVSC has taken a lesson from the ACT in regards to attractive revenue raising options. Make all parking spots maximum three-hour limit and then charge a fat fine for the ones who met somebody in the street and chatted for two minutes longer than they expected.
Next step along those lines of thought might be to charge for all-day parking to get money out of everyone who works in Bega.
BVSC are you really this desperate for extra money in shire coffers that we need to follow the big city examples? I am a willing listener for any good argument if it exists.

Thank you for care
The Jones family thanks all the service staff who cared for my husband Alan during his recent illness, stay in hospital and death.
From the staff at Dementia Australia Bega, to Bega Valley Medical Practice and Community Health nurses, to the paramedics who transported Alan to SERH, to all the treatment teams in Emergency, Surgical and Medical and Palliative Care and ancillary services including speech pathology, nutrition, wardsmen, food services and room cleaning - all tended Alan with professional and gentle, respectful care. Our family appreciated that Alan was in good and loving hands. The care was exemplary.
How lucky we have been to live in a community for 22 years where such quality of care is available. Thank you to all who played a part in Alan's care and for the friendship extended to us, including John Whyman for his reassuring, professional funeral services.
Pat Jones, Bega
Service a godsend
I have had the need to utilise the services of Canberra Hospital's Building 5 when my son was an inpatient. I would not have been able to afford motel accommodation and I have no friends or family in or near Canberra. This service was a godsend!
As Canberra is three hours from Merimbula where we live the cost of accompanying family members there for surgery or procedures is prohibitive. Without this service many from my local area will be extremely disadvantaged both financially as well as the stress it places on patients being without family support at a time when they may desperately need their support.
Admittedly Building 5 was no Hilton, but served its purpose well and I fervently hope that a replacement will be built to enable members of regional areas to stay near their loved ones when they are needed.

How dare you PM
The backlash by conservative commentators, including our current PM, to Greta Thunberg's campaign and the worldwide response by her peers, is not really surprising.
The last thing those in power want is the population at large getting ideas which might challenge their positions and the commercial interests of their puppet masters, the rich and powerful and in particular the global fossil fuel industry.
These young people, we are told, should not be made to feel anxious, should concentrate on their school work and not be out and about questioning the actions of their elders and betters.
Greta Thunberg, when speaking of short term commercial concerns taking precedence over the environment, said "how dare you" and I say how dare you to Morrison's smirking, dismissive, arrogance in his response.
