Since relocating to the Bega Valley from Sydney five years ago, Belinda Alcorn said finding connection with the local gay community was difficult.

Coming from a larger city where queer communities tend to be more connected, Belinda felt the Bega Valley LGBTQIA community was invisible.
"There weren't any structured events or groups to identify with - the community was invisible," she said.
"But now all of that is beginning to change."
Belinda is part of a new volunteer-run community group, Bega Pride, which is preparing to hold its first LGBTQIA disco and tickets have been selling fast. Since going on sale only a couple of weeks ago, already a third of the tickets have sold out.
"There's been an air of change on the back of the 'yes' vote. Knowing that two out of three Australians wanted you to have the right to marry began to shift things in our psyche," Belinda said.
"I do feel like there is more acceptance out there in rural areas - but we still have way to go.
"We still need to encourage community inclusiveness."

Belinda said she hoped the disco event, which is aimed at promoting diversity, would complement last year's successful youth-driven Rainbow Wave Festival in bringing people together in a safe and fun space.
"The Rainbow Wave event showed us there were plenty of LGBTQIA youth along with a community that supports them.
"It highlighted the need to hold more events like this. Disco Inferno is a chance for all of the community to get together and be themselves in a fun and safe space.
"We not only welcome all folks who identify as LGBTQI, anybody who wants to celebrate diversity with us are invited. We want people to celebrate that we're all different and it's okay - it's a great thing," she said.
"Disco Inferno" is set to be held at the Bega Country Club, November 30, kicking off from 7.30pm until midnight.
Along with Sydney DJ Ruby Red there will be live drag performances by Alesha Zamann, dance competitions and best dressed prizes.
Tickets are available online via eventbrite pre-sale only. For further information visit the Bega Pride Facebook Page.
