Money where mouth is
I note with disappointment the BVSC's decision to pronounce a climate emergency and BDN's support of this decision. There is a saying, "There are none so blind as those who will not see".

Climate alarmists have made a religion based on IPCC prophecies that have not eventuated. To demand that Australia should cut its CO2 emissions is just virtue signalling with no effect on the planet's temperature or CO2.
Instead of holding "climate strikes" on Friday, students should go and protest outside the Chinese embassy whose country will contribute 30 per cent of global/pa CO2 over the next 30 years.
I propose a test of sincerity to the alarmists on our council. I will put up $100 to go into a "Climate Outcome" bank account (controlled by Council/BDN) if each of the councillors who voted for the emergency do the same.
In 2025 I will forgo my $100 plus interest, to the Salvos (or similar) if their evidence for the climate emergency is vindicated. Or, if my assertion that none of the dire predictions of sea levels rising by 1 to 2 metres and global average temperature rising 2-3C, then councillors forgo their money to this charity plus a letter of apology in the BDN to Bega Valley residents.
Even if the councillors are not prepared to forgo only $100 of their allowance, I still thank the council that it provides the forum for contrary opinions and does not shut down discussion altogether.

Virtue signalling
I note that BVSC in declaring a climate emergency, has joined 28 other councils in Australia that have also made such a declaration. This is about .05 per cent of the 537 Local Government Areas that exist in the nation.
We now even have one of those 28, a council in Victoria, that has advertised to recruit a climate emergency officer. Is the BVSC also looking to recruit such a person? What a pathetic bunch of virtue signalling clowns this lot are.
Councils should be responsible for:
Collecting our rubbish.
Ensure the drains, sewerage and water systems work.
Fix potholes in roads.
Maintain local parks, libraries and pools.
Approve basic local planning applications.
Work with the police to maintain law and order.
What is this council doing wasting time and our money making meaningless declarations about the climate? And what genius on council decided they should buy the Hotel Australasia in Eden? I would love to see the business case for that!
I encourage every resident who can spare the time to attend a BVSC meeting. One doesn't need to spend long there to discover what a dysfunctional rabble they are.

Top service
I shop regularly at Woolworths in Bega and find most staff quite good, but one is always exceptional and keeps the customers flowing through, always with a smile and impeccable manners. Makes for a very pleasant visit. Linelle Moon is her name.

Love this place
We relocated to Quaama three years ago from Nowra and could not be happier. We find the area very easy to shop in.
If we come to get the Cruiser serviced we go to North Bega to G and H Mechanical and on my way there pick up a lovely cup of coffee at the caravan at North Bega near the tyre service place.
If we want water it's also at North Bega. If we shop there is not a lot of traffic to contend with and every shop assistant in Bega is always willing to go out of their way to help you. We just love the place.
