So it was timely that the Get Ready Weekend was held on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend provided the opportunity to meet local firefighters and learn more about preparing bushfire survival plans and properties. A major point brought up by the weekend was to discuss what to do if a bushfire threatens your home.
Events were held by brigades such as Wolumla, Tathra, Bemboka, Tarraganda, Jellat and Bermagui.
On Sunday, St Luke's Church in Wolumla had a service where Reverend Lou Oakes gave thanks to and blessed the Wolumla Rural Fire Service crews and their fire trucks.
Bemboka RFS also saw a good turnout of people at its Get Ready Weekend on Saturday.
