But the under 18s Roosters overcame a speedy and agile Narooma Devils outfit to claim the Group 16 premiership with a 28-18 result.
Play was high-energy from the outset with Narooma's points mostly coming from massive line breaks and the ensuing bursts of speed the northern quicks can produce.
The opening try had come from a 70-metre sprint down the field by the Narooma hooker, while the Clyde Parsons kick cleared the posts neatly for the Devils to lead 6-0 early in the piece.
The energetic play did force both sides to cough up some errors and handovers were prevalent early in the first half.
However, Jordan Gray-Balcomb soon set the tone of play for the Bega outfit, storming across twice down the left edge to set up a Bega lead and a good flow of momentum for the home club.
High bombs and grubbers were hardly an option as Narooma fullback was too strong under the ball, but the Roosters were able to find workarounds.
Findlay Geoghegan added his four to the Bega pile, crossing on the left for Bega to lead 16-6 by half-time with Clay Ellison's kicking game still a strong feature for the Roosters.
When play returned the Roosters set up the early momentum with prop Darnell Andy setting up Bega captain Alex Eadie with a neat offload for the number 11 to find the chalk left of the posts.
However, the Devils soon replied when Clyde Parsons made a 60-metre break with a great show of speed for the Devils to trail Bega 22-12.
When Darnell charged through the middle and set up some outside-inside passing options for Bega again it was Eadie securing the spoils in almost the same spot and Bega surged to a 28-12 lead with the clock dying away.
A late option let Narooma's Zachariah Sweeney loose and the successful conversion wrapped up the scoring with Bega securing the result 28-18.
Darnell was named man of the match and, in an emotional tribute, dedicated the win to his Dad.
