Magistrate Doug Dick sentenced 22-year-old Lou John Hartin to a non-parole-period of nine months on Thursday, September 5, after he earlier pleaded guilty to affray, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and contravening an apprehended violence order. Hartin, who was on parole for a previous offence involving destroying property earlier this year, was also sentenced for an unrelated assault.
Court documents show Hartin and his brother-in-law Andrew Mundy, 24, became engaged in a verbal argument around 9pm on Monday, September 2, before it escalated into a physical fight.
The court heard Hartin and Mundy were threatening each other with a tomahawk and a golf club at an Eden home.
Police were called and when they approached the front door of the property saw Mundy holding a tomahawk above his head, while Hartin pointed a golf club at him.
Arresting officers drew a taser on the pair before their arrest and they were taken to Eden Police Station.
Mundy pleaded guilty to affray, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and cannabis possession.
He will be sentenced in Bega Local Court on October 29.
