Music NSW's new Regional Music Officer, Satoru "Sats" Kramer, hails from Bermagui and has been busy compiling a database of local venues and artists on the Far South Coast.
"Music binds a community, it's a common language no matter what your background is. It brings people together," Mr Kramer said.
"It helps us evolve as a society. When you bring people together from different backgrounds you get to know each other.
"You realise we are all the same."
The 38-year-old remembers being inspired by the work of American singer-songwriter James Taylor at the age of four, and regularly going to gigs at the Murrah Hall.
"The Murrah Hall is where I first saw the power of a band in full flight," he said.
His role will cover from Eden to Batemans Bay and up to the Monaro, while fellow regional officer Phoebe Pinnock will cover the Wagga region and Michael Simic, of Mikelangelo & Black Sea Gentlemen fame, will cover from Queanbeyan to Bowral.
"Ultimately it's about advocacy and advice. To engage and liaise with venues to create more live, original music," Mr Kramer said.
"In this area there are pockets. Candelo is essentially a venue in itself.
"It has attracted an amazing pool of talent."
As well as creating the database, which will be available as an online resource, he is hoping to link as many artists as he can with venues. Networking and linking is key, he said.
Beginning as a bass player, Mr Kramer shifted to guitar seven years ago, and it has since become his "main instrument" of choice.
Having grown up in the region and played music locally, Mr Kramer represents a move by Music NSW to employ "local music champions to be brokers within their towns".
Mr Kramer will be hosting a meet and greet night for anyone involved in music at Bega's Grand Hotel on September 23 from 6pm.
