A man has been charged after he filed a false missing person report of a man who went missing in waters off Tathra last week.
About 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 14, emergency services were called to Gillards Beach, after reports of a swimmer had gone missing.
A search was initiated involving local police, coordinated by the Marine Area Command and assisted by State Emergency Service (SES), NSW Ambulance, Surf Rescue NSW, PolAir, and SES.
The search continued until Friday August, 16, when inquiries determined the report was false, and there was no missing swimmer.
Following investigations, officers from South Coast Police District issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to the 42-year-old man for the offence of false representation resulting in police investigation on Tuesday August 20.
The Victorian man is due to appear at Bega Local Court on Tuesday October 15.
