Mr Lyon was the managing director of Lyon Group Australia, which owns the Seahorse Inn at Boydtown on the southern shore of Twofold Bay, Eden.
Mr Lyon began working in real estate at the age of 22, opening his own business in Epping a year later with such limited resources he slept in the Oxford St premises and showered at the squash courts across the road.
He was reportedly among the first Sydney real estate agents to open his doors on a Sunday, and that fighting business spirit saw him through many successful decades.
While not always seeing eye to eye with council and governments, Mr Lyon was adamant Boydtown could become a vibrant coastal city, with a rail link from Nowra through to Bairnsdale, and residential and mixed commercial use subdivisions on the land surrounding the Seahorse Inn.
Boydtown was once pegged by founder and Scottish entrepreneur Benjamin Boyd to be a city to rival the ports of Sydney and Melbourne.
While Mr Lyon's final vision for Boydtown remains unrealised, he has left an indelible mark on the Eden and Far South Coast community and will be sadly missed.
Plans are underway for a large tribute gathering later this month to celebrate Bruce Lyon's life and visions, with more details to come once finalised.
