Misdirected fears
It is good to see from the front page of BDN (12/7) that there are teens making an effort to raise concerns about their future. However I am more concerned that they are misdirected in their fears.

If they would care to research facts, not emotive mantras, they would see that climate change/global warming scares are not based on facts. Facts show that satellite records indicate there has been no global warming trend for at least the last 20 years (see Climate Depot - Marc Morano).
The cry that there is a climate emergency is the same tactic a dictator uses declaring a bogus 'state of emergency' to grant himself extraordinary powers.
The argument that climate change will cause all the dire outcomes these activists are pushing on our youth especially is deceptive. Students calling for schools to strike for governments to declare an emergency would do far better to do some sensible reading and research such as "Heaven and Earth", Ian Plimer; "Killing the Earth to Save It", James Delingpole; and "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change", M Morano. Do some reading on the day they take off from school to strike.
Students' concerns to government should really focus on the need to provide them with good employment opportunities, especially in the Bega region, that will come from cheaper and reliable power produced from nuclear energy or clean coal, of which Australia has an abundance. Am I concerned about their future? Yes I am. I hope they will pressure the governments to provide cheap power so they can get good jobs, raise families and keep the lights on.

Speed not the answer
Dropping the speed limit on Mt Darragh Road is not going to reduce the accidents or deaths. It will not stop speeding. It will cause frustration to commuters as they live far enough away from employment as it is.
It's the idiots who are fault...those speeding way beyond the limit. I've witnessed high speed cars looming up behind me and then overtake and gone in a second.
So by dropping the speed limit, the responsible people have to put up with ridiculous changes all because of the irresponsible idiots who will continue to disobey the law and they will continue speeding.
What should be banned on Mt Darragh Rd is cyclists! Now there are deaths waiting to happen. They will cause accidents.
No, definitely not lower the speed limit on Mt Darragh Road - address the speeding idiots...somehow!

Better, safer options
Regarding Mt Darragh Rd, It would be better to upgrade the road. Add more signage in dangerous areas.

When will we learn
Here we go again. Let's drop the speed limit, that will the problem.
The real problem is the drivers, not the road. When drivers drive to the conditions, their ability and the limits of their car, it's not a problem. But time and again I have been passed at night or in bad weather by someone doing over 100 with all lights blazing and in what must be the worst handling vehicle at speed - utes. No wonder there are crashes.
I look at it as a part of "natural selection" or as an entry for the Darwin Awards, but that doesn't always work out as per the cyclist's death. When will we ever learn

In dark over walk
This proposal by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for the Light to Light Walk is a continuum of the past 200 years in the far South-East of Australia. A land grab by an elite, privileged and greedy few, sanctioned by a distant government to the detriment and exclusion of the general populace.
