A trolley full of food, personal care items, bedding and blankets was an unusual but very welcome sight for Women's Resource Centre coordinator Jane Hughes when she recently entered the Bega branch of the Horizon Credit Union.

The items had been collected by Horizon staff and donated by its customers in a drive to provide some basic necessities to women and children accessing the centre, located in Bega.
Among its other services each year the centre distributes food, clothing, personal care items, linen and blankets to women and families in the Bega Valley.
Over the last few years it has been supported to do this through the efforts of Horizon's staff and the generosity of its customers.
The centre is not funded to provide these necessities to people accessing the service and so relies on the generous donation of the Bega community as well as its community partners to deliver this support.
While the items distributed to women and families are often simple and basic the impact on the day-to-day life and wellbeing of those accessing this support can be profound, from literally being able to put food on the table to the feeling that they are valued and have a place in the community.
The centre thanked Bega Horizon and those who donated to its efforts.
