Organised by Family and Community Services (FACS) with other services such as Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services attending and PCYC Far South Coast, there were craft activities, a chance to play some basketball, face painting and a sausage sizzle.
The day started with a Welcome Dance and Smoking Ceremony performed by community members. Afterwards young people were invited to join in.
There was free fruit and water for the kids and Roni Docker of Katungul said the organisation was going to donate food trays but when she went to Woolworths, Bega, to collect them the store donated the 12 fruit and vegetable trays which were given to the Elders.
It was a story that was repeated in Eden where every business in the main street donated to the raffles that were drawn at the end of the event.
Police attended with Inspector Peter Volf saying it was about the police showing their support for NAIDOC Week.
PCYC youth case manager senior constable Sarah Bancroft was at the event with some of the young people who attend the PCYC Fit for Life sessions at the George Brown Memorial Sports Ground on Tuesday morning during term time. Following a boxing and workout session, there's a chance to enjoy breakfast thanks to cook Beth Moore from Pambula Rotary and Coles, Eden who provide the food.
