Bega Cheese executive chairman Barry Irvin is extending his leave from the company by six months to undergo cancer treatment.

The ASX listed company said Mr Irvin, who announced in May he would be on leave to recover from urgent surgery, will now be undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Mr Irvin, who has been the company's executive chairman since 2008, and became chairman of the Bega co-operative society in 2000 after time in the finance sector.
In a letter to suppliers in May, Mr Irvin reinforced the need for everyone to undergo regular medical checkups.
"Like many people, sometimes I get my priorities wrong and focus too much on work and not enough on my health," he said in the letter.
"Unfortunately a recent check up has resulted in the need for me to be immediately hospitalised for surgery and it is likely I will take a few months to recover and to potentially receive further treatment."
