Many would argue that the Bega rugby league export has been worthy for years now.
Sadly, he was repeatedly looked over, but in a weird twist an injury to David Klemmer in Origin one this year became the silver lining for the Melbourne Storm lock to get his shot for NSW.
Running on with the starting 13, Finucane made a worthy debut, gaining 82 metres off 10 hit-ups and backing up for a solid defensive effort in about 40 minutes of game time.
Luckily, coach Brad Fittler has had the common sense to retain Finucane for Origin three in what had been an unchanged squad earlier in the week.
Since there have been two changes with David Klemmer to return with Tariq Sims ruled out through a dangerous tackle suspension, while Mitchell Pearce moves into the halves in place of Nathan Cleary.
It has been an agonizing few weeks for Fittler, who was first trashed for his seven changes heading into Origin two.
Then when he decided to not change that squad - which hammered Queensland 38-6 in Perth - he got trashed again for choosing to leave that winning combination alone.
The staff at the BDN are just delighted Klemmer's return hasn't come at the expense of our favourite lock-forward.
There is no crystal ball to predict round three at ANZ Stadium next Wednesday.
But for Far South Coast fans there is one aspect that is far from a cloudy future: they know Dale Finucane will not let NSW down.
