Bega Valley Public School held a celebration of local culture on Monday to kick off the week, with pupils expressing the pride they have in the local community.
Ron Thomas' son Corey, who played the didgeridoo during the ceremony, said a lot has changed since he was a pupil in Bermagui in the 1980s.
"There was nothing like this back then," Mr Thomas said.
"I'm proud of Corey, he's achieved a lot in just his 12 years."
The school said they had wanted the pupils to work together to create an Acknowledgment of Country relevant to the local community.
"Our next step is to add local language to our acknowledgement," staff member Michell Scott said.
