After years of hard work and persistence, Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner Education is pleased to be able to offer a scholarship for a student experiencing financial hardship.
The primary school, located in Bega, celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. It was started by a group of keen parents who wanted to create a school along the lines of Rudolf Steiner principles. The school community sets out to create a harmonious school environment which fosters the balanced development of children, preparing them to act in freedom, with intelligence, creativity and purpose in a changing world.
Board chairwoman Ingrid Mitchell said a unique feature of the school is that students will have the same teacher throughout their entire primary education. "It's just fantastic, it encourages a deeper relationship and connection for the child," she said. "You also don't have a lot of that anxiety at beginning of the year. Some teachers have been there since the start, others 20 years. The longevity of the staff is testament to the quality of the school."
The new scholarship will allow a family experiencing financial hardship the opportunity to send their child to the school and experience this holistic style of education. The child will be supported to attend the school for the entire seven years of their primary education.
Ingrid has been an integral part of the scholarship group for the past three years. "There are families who would like their children to come to our school, and even though our fees are modest, there are those who cannot afford it," she said. "We have always dreamed of offering a scholarship, to make sure Mumbulla is available to all."

A key part of the process was obtaining tax deductible status and this was achieved at the end of 2017. Then after much fundraising a local business person made a generous contribution which gave the committee the confidence to be able to offer one seven-year scholarship.
Applications for the scholarship will open on July 1 and close August 31. Interviews will take place in September and the applicant chosen at the end of September. The successful applicant will start their education at the school at the beginning of next year. The application will be based on proof of financial hardship and there is help available to complete the forms. Phone the school on 6492 3476 or check www.mumbullaschool.com.au.
The scholarship process is entirely confidential, and the child will begin school in the same way as all other students. "They will get an education filled with fun, play, growth and a love of learning," Ingrid said. "It's such a beautiful school to be a part of, and the children have such a wonderful education."
