Entries to the Group 16 annual minor league carnival have exploded this year with 108 teams set to take part, group secretary Alexis Creary says.
"This is my fourth years as secretary for Group 16 and in that time we are normally around 70-80 teams, so it's about a 30-team leap," Ms Creary said.
The growth in the girls' game with the meteoric rise of league-tag is partly responsible for the huge growth with a fourth division of league-tag responsible for seven or eight new teams, Ms Creary said.
However, she praised enormous growth in the entry-level 'minis' age groups which are for players between seven and nine-years-old.
"The biggest boost has been those players of the future," she said.
A vast number of the teams taking part will hail from Group 16 clubs, which extends from Batemans Bay south to Eden and west to Jindabyne and Cooma, but there will be a large contingent of squads from the Canberra region travelling for the day.
Ms Creary said, while it was a logistical nightmare to coordinate, most volunteers were just happy to see the kids have a good day.
"It's a carnival atmosphere and gives the kids the chance to interact on the sidelines and meet new friends from other clubs," she said.
"My kids' favourite days of the year are the carnivals - my eldest is in the 16s so he has gone through a lot of carnivals, but it's still a favourite for him."
She said there was great participation within Group 16 and said it would be an enormous day of quality junior footy.
However, there will also be plenty on offer for Group 16's budding young referees with Ms Creary saying each club provides some volunteer referees and "it's a good day for the referees to get a lot of experience in one day".
With the influx of teams, officials have been scrambling to find extra fields for play with the carnival to overrun the Bega Recreation Ground, George Brown Memorial Oval and the Athletics Fields on Saturday.
Play will run from about 9am Saturday morning with finals to start around 2.30pm and Ms Creary expects play will be wrapped up around 4pm.
Family and friends are encouraged to head along with spectators welcome and a barbecue canteen available hosted by the Bega Roosters.
Ms Creary offered best wishes to Kezie Apps, Millie Boyle and Dale Finucane, who will all star in State of Origin games over the weekend.
The ladies Origin will be on Channel Nine from 7.30pm Friday night.
"We would love to wish them all the best, but if you want to see the stars of the future, then get down to the Bega Rec Ground on Saturday for some great games."
