Police allege during the early morning of June 10, the man was driving on Upper Brogo Rd with a registered firearm.
The 23-year-old drove past a private property where he has never had permission to hunt and where he saw a large sambar hybrid buck on the property.
It is alleged he stopped his vehicle and shot the buck from the public road, then after shooting the animal he returned his firearm to his vehicle, crossed a fence entering private property and removed the buck's head from the carcass.
Game Licensing Unit officers allegedly uncovered evidence of the crime and joined forces with Rural Crime Investigators.
On Thursday, June 13 the investigators charged the man at the Bega Police Station with discharging a firearm in a public place, hunting a game animal on private land without a licence, and trespassing.
His firearms licence was suspended, his three firearms were seized and he is due to appear before Bega Local Court on August 13.
"This arrest comes as a result of the RCPT [Rural Crime Prevention Team] and GLU joining forces to detect and prosecute illegal hunters," a rural crime - NSW police force spokesperson said.
"If you intend to hunt illegally be ready to get caught as we are out when you least expect us, week days and weekends, it's just a matter of time before you get caught.
"We have this message for you, change your ways and hunt legally, or it will be only a matter of time before we catch up with you too and put you before the court."
