The large inflatable and internally lit sculpture was revealed during an evening opening with the artists from Goldberg Aberline Studio, gallery director Iain Dawson and plenty of intrigued onlookers.
That intrigue continues with Mr Dawson saying there have been numerous people stopping to take photos of the highly visible outdoor artwork.
"It's hard to gauge interest [in this exhibition] because we can't just count the number of people through the door,"Mr Dawson said.
"But it has brought a lot of people inside where we can talk about what we have on the roof and what we are doing with the gallery."
The "launch" of Microcosm was also the launch of a philanthropic campaign by the BVRG to crowdfund equipment and internal infrastructure such as audio-visual capabilities and digital displays.
While keeping up with technology and how it is increasingly utilised in artistic and creative endeavours is at the heart of the campaign, Mr Dawson said he also hoped people would see the eclectic program of the BVRG, like Microcosm, as worthy of investment.
"We're coming out of our shell," he said. "It's about maintaining visibility as well as attracting new visitors.
"We can raise this, I think it's a reasonable target and I'm confident we will hit it."
Microcosm will hang above the BVRG on display 24/7 for three weeks before popping up at Tathra Wharf for 24 hours on Saturday, June 8.
It was made possible due to the BVRG's annual artistic program grants delivered by Create NSW.
