Last year's division three mixed winners were back for more with Bega opening their title defence against the Dragonettes.
Some confusion around the start time saw some of the team arrive late. Luckily, some budding Bega juniors were on hand to fill the gaps.
The Dragonettes used their height and experience advantage to win the opening set, while the full Bega squad had arrived for game two, but went down after missing any chance to warm up after a long drive.
By the third game Bega were finding their stride, but the Dragonettes edged them out once more for a clean sweep 3-0.
However, club officials said with everyone now warm, a morning draw proved advantageous with three games in a row set for the visiting team.
The next opponent was last year's runner-up in SFV and in a tight see-sawing clash Bega claimed the first set 25-22.
SFV rallied to win the second set, but the Bega squad regained their composure to win the last 25-22 and take the match 2-1.
The third round presented Bega against Olli Olli Olli! where a close game went to the home squad 27-25 after Bega had some service errors.
Again the visitors rallied to win 25-18 in the second set, then pressed the advantage to win the last 25-23 after cleaning up the errors.
Warmed up and with the full roster available, Bega played a rematch against the Dragonettes for the final regular round, taking two close wins.
After a count-back Bega finished second in the group stage with SFV taking the lead.
The result meant Bega must again face the Dragonettes in a sudden death semi-final.
A spokesman for the club said fatigue was starting to set in after a full series of games and Bega suffered a loss 27-25 after a slow start.
Bega rallied after an injury to win the second set, and showed solidarity for their team-mate with a comfortably win in the third 18-13.
Facing SFV for the gold, the home team dominated the first set 25-13 with fast middle combination and a boost of players from their men's team.
Bega worked hard to contain the team, but suffered a convincing second set loss, before a two-point defeat in the last round to finish as silver medalists.
A 'come and try' session and registration was held on Thursday night ahead of the club's regular draw starting next week.
New players are still welcome.
