After the two clubs traded a single goal early to level peg at 6-6 it was Merimbula firing to the front with a 40-point opening quarter where the Sea Eagles just couldn't keep pace.
The Diggers simply had too many strong options, Daniel Worden and Dylan Jordan provided long-range reach out of the half-back line to work the ball straight up front where Dan Edwards was unflappable.
Through the middle, Noah Martyn was covered heavily, but still found room to break away with the Diggers getting away to a 38-6 lead at the first break.
Tathra rallied after the break and worked hard to contain the Diggers in the second quarter, keeping them to just two goals.
But the hosts still didn't find many options to push the ball forward and points on the board themselves to still trail 55-14 at the main break.
Dan Edwards, Jak Howker and Matt Molkentin each bagged three goals apiece for the visiting Diggers.
Meanwhile, Tathra's Troy O'Loghlin had shown some wonderful passages of agility to to elude the Merimbula defenders and kicked two goals to lead the scoring for the home club.
Luke Taylor and Zac Harlow were right in the thick of play, running back and forth across the middle to try and pick up any loose ball as well as shutting off some of Merimbula's options.
Liam Walker-Eastick and coach Tom Lipsham were also heavily involved in play, but a slight height advantage and accurate long-range kicks started to become too much for the home team.
Jamie Hambling and Howker were among the best for the Diggers as the visitors started to take control, kicking five goals to Tathra's one in the third quarter.
And despite a fight-back from the Eagles in the last, the ratio was still three to one on the scoreboard with the Diggers able to pick up a seemingly comfortable win by almost 80 points.
Earlier in the women's game the Eaglettes posted a crushing 100-point win over the visiting Diggers 17-11-113 to 1-0-6.
The home team showed immense pace and ability in ball contests to break free from their Merimbula opponents.
Elouise Russell was one of the best on ground, launching the ball forward to her attackers out of the midfield repeatedly.
Cymmon Parker was again among the best with some great passages out of half-forward, breaking loose and running in for goals at range or setting up her forwards to post a good score.
Tathra reserves also posted a win and coach Ricky Woods said he couldn't be happier.
"Cheers for the effort and the way you guys stood up, I couldn't be more happy - you guys killed it," he said.
