The Far South Coast Landcare Association is launching a new program funded by the Australian government focused on working closely with a group of Bega Valley farmers to explore ways of improving their long term sustainability and profitability.

Farming Smarter Together facilitator David Newell said the program was focused on bringing a committed group of farmers together to build their confidence in making good management decisions for the future sustainability of their farms and families.
"The group will be working together over 18 months, to share knowledge and support each other to learn, practice and reflect on their management practices and decisions," Mr Newell said.
The program will involve a series of learning modules to provide a focus on specific aspects of sustainable farming, such as understanding soils, water management, pastures and biodiversity. These modules will include field days where specialist advice can be accessed.
"Farmers participating in the program will have the opportunity to identify long-term goals, and explore how environmental indicators could lead towards improved sustainability and profitability," Mr Newell said.
Expressions of interest are now being called to participate in the program via www.bit.ly/farmingsmarterEOI. EOIs close on May 24.
