South Coast Hunters Club president Dan Field took responsibility for the decision, due to a decline in exhibitors.
"I have to take the blame for this, I was the one who put the motion to the club to have it cancelled this year because I would rather see no show than half a show," he said.
Instead of putting on a poor show, we have decided to not put one on at all
- Dan Field
Since 2013, Narooma's annual Huntfest has run over the June long weekend. Mr Field said the event was a success over the years, injecting approximately $5.5 million into local businesses and donating $15,000 to community groups.
However, Mr Field said the event had struggled to compete with bigger shows across the state.
"When we first started Huntfest there was us and only one other show in NSW; now there's approximately nine," he said.

Mr Field said exhibitors had decided to go to bigger shows where more people attended.
"We are the furthest away from most of the cities and probably the most expensive to attend.
"You have to look at it from the exhibitors' and organisers' points of view - it's the same amount of work for a smaller show where attendees would leave being disappointed," he said.
"Instead of putting on a poor show, we have decided to not put one on at all."
Mr Field said the club was proud of Huntfest and it had been the trendsetter of hunting exhibitions.
"We were the first club to host an event with skinning, butchering and sausage demonstrations," Mr Field said.
"I also think we were the first club to have an air rifle range and archery, which is now pretty standard at most shows."
Discussions between the club and committee are taking place to decide whether the event was likely to run in 2020.
"We're investigating different things as to what we can and can't do in the future. The decision will be made in the next couple of weeks, whether we will hold another Huntfest," Mr Field said.
