After a winless start and conceding 76 points in two weeks, Pay has rung in five changes for Sunday's showdown with the Wests Tigers in an attempt to spark his side.

Pay is off contract at the end of 2019 and, while he inherited a salary cap mess and has the youngest roster in the competition, the Bulldogs' fanbase demand success and improvement.

Former skipper Michael Ennis said that if the Bulldogs remained winless after six rounds he expected it to be the death knell for Pay's hopes of being re-signed.

Veteran Will Hopoate didn't shy away from the fact that there is plenty at stake against the Tigers at Campbelltown Stadium, stating they needed to remove the scrutiny on Pay and themselves.

When asked if they needed to play for Pay, Hopoate said: "I think so, not only for him but for ourselves, for our fans and our season, there's a lot on the line this weekend.

"It's not good trying to play catch up towards the end of the year. It's been a slow start for us but we want to fix it."

As part of Pay sweeping in the changes, Hopoate has been shifted from fullback to centre with former-Newcastle No.1 Nick Meaney earning his club debut.

In addition, wingers Christian Crichton and Marcelo Montoya and forwards Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Danny Fualalo and Jesse Sue have been dropped.

Local junior Jayden Okunbor gets his debut on the wing while Rhyse Martin, Ofahiki Ogden and Chris Smith have earned recalls via the bench.

"We let in a lot of points the last two weeks. Deano's got to do what he feels he has to do," Hopoate said.

"I felt it coming with the amount of points we've let in.

"I knew there were going to be changes and I had a feeling he was going to mix things up all across the park.

"That meant I had to move back to the centres."
