NSW Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance says the pressure is now on the federal government to fund a safer Princes Highway from Nowra to the Victorian border.
The Bega MP was returned in Saturday's election, and immediately called for a 80-20 highway funding commitment from his federal counterparts.
"We're about to take it up a notch," he said of the Fix it Now campaign.
"Safer roads are something I'm very passionate about, and making sure the Princes Highway is upgraded and duplicated is important.
"I'm going to be fighting hard with the feds to get the money needed to upgrade the highway. We will be talking to the Commonwealth and my expectation is that the Federal Government will make a significant commitment."
He said major work would begin on the highway from Nowra to Moruya in this term of government, including a Moruya bypass.
"People were initially sceptical of the Batemans Bay bridge, but now they can see the work has begun on that," he said.
The Coalition has promised $15 billion over 20 years to duplicate the highway to the Victorian border.
