Riding a circuit Reid knows well - Wakefield Park in Goulburn - the teenager said he felt comfortable from the outset and was stoked to pick up third place.
"What a great weekend with P3 overall!" Reid shared on social media. "Really can't thank my team Suzuki Ecstar Australia and (team boss) Dale Brede enough."
After finishing fourth in the practice sessions despite some dubious weather, conditions improved for qualifying the next day and Reid climbed to a third-place start.
In just the second round of the season, Reid said there was also some fine-tuning with the bike helped build the lap times.
"Practice felt pretty good, but just a few little changes to see how we would go for the rest of the weekend."
Reid was thrilled with the result and said he was stoked to have family and friends at the circuit to celebrate with.
"Massive thanks to my Mum and Dad for all you do and to everyone who came out from family and friends plus the lads at Canberra Motorcycle Shop for cheering me on," he said.
The ex-local also looked the part with sponsors kitting him out in new riding leathers to match the pearl blue of his Suzuki.
Reid's mum Renee Antonio said she was incredibly proud of her son and that he could be a major contender for the rest of the race series.
"The first of many more podiums to come," she beamed.
Round three is in South Australia in April.
