Mackie has pleaded not guilty to murdering 26-year-old Bega resident Marnie-Lee Cave in October 2015.
The retrial, being held in Wollongong, comes after a jury in Bega was unable to reach a unanimous verdict in February last year.
Justice Julia Lonergan is presiding over the retrial which began on March 11 and is estimated to run until April 5.
