The attack, which involved two boys and a girl, was filmed on a mobile phone and shared via social media. A copy was also sent to local media. 

In the video a young boy in a red cap is seen grabbing a fellow student from behind, shoving him up against a concrete wall and the two of them trading punches. A female student then joins in, wrestling the boy to the ground and punching him repeatedly in the head while the boy in the red cap is held away by a member of staff.

The reason for the attack is unknown and the school approached for comment. It comes nine months after a similar vicious assault at the local high school was filmed and shared, with those involved widely condemned by the school and community for their behaviour.

Following Friday's incident, Bega High School and the Department of Education said they do not tolerate any violence or inappropriate anti-social behaviour from students, "which includes the filming and distribution of film of a violent nature".

"An incident between students took place at school on Friday, and was handled appropriately according to the school's discipline policy and the Department's Suspension Policy and Guidelines," a department spokesperson said.
