With pre-polling for the NSW State Election beginning this week, Bega Valley Shire Council is reminding the candidates and parties to ensure they adhere to the Electoral Act in regards to advertising.

Questions from party representatives were raised on Monday after several candidate signs were removed by council rangers.
"The Act clearly states that advertising material, including signs and posters, cannot be displayed on or within land or buildings occupied, used by, or under the control or management of the Crown, NSW Government agencies, or a Council," a BVSC spokesperson said.
"Additionally, advertising on private land or buildings can only be undertaken with the written consent of the owner.
"Bega Valley Shire Council is committed to abiding by and upholding the requirements of the Act and will be taking action to address any identified contraventions."
The state election will be held on Saturday, March 23, with pre-polling available at the following locations within the BVSC area:
- Bega – Bega Election Manager’s Office at 3 Hill St (Funhouse Studio building).
- Merimbula – Twyford Hall, 16 Market St.
