In early March, Bega Valley Shire Council's recreation assets officer Ed Crothers said council was aware of a recent incident at Mogareeka where a vehicle had slipped into the water and become submerged, and had "undertaken a site condition assessment".
He said council’s maintenance program "ensures boat ramps are cleaned monthly during summer months and every second month through winter".
"Additional cleaning services are resourced with exercises such as river mouth openings, where boat ramps may have been sitting under stagnant water for long periods of time, and trials are occurring with algae control products which are safe for use around marine environments," he said.
"We ask users of these facilities to exercise caution where appropriate."
A spokesperson at MGM Panelbeaters and Towing said the company had removed "one or two" vehicles from the river mouth over the summer period.
The boat ramp will be closed this week to allow contractors to "clean, scrub and under water pressure wash the ramp".
Council said on social media the ramp will be closed on Wednesday, March 27, with signage at Blackfellows Lake Rd at Kalaru and Kianinny St at Tathra advising water users of the planned closure.
