It is the second major deployment for Jack Matthews, 21, and Matt Jennings, 20, who have been part of the Candelo team since they were in their early teens and have fought in last year's Tathra and Yankees Gap bushfires.
They plan on assisting the Country Fire Authority and Forest Fire Management Victoria outside Buchan, north of Orbost, controlling and putting out hotspots around backburning that is taking place to stop a bushfire that has reached 21,000ha and has been going for over 40 days.
Mr Matthews said the two were hoping to build up enough experience to get into the Remote Area Firefighting Team back home.
"It's also about coming down and helping out. These guys come up and help us so it's about us helping them too," he said.
Mr Jennings, a fifth generation firefighter, said firefighting ran in his blood.
Candelo fire brigade captain Harmen Kampman it would be a good experience for the two to have.
"They're pretty experienced boys now, they have been with the brigade since they were both about 12," he said.
"They've done well for themselves and are pretty confident too."
