BSGS is one of nine screening and assessment services funded by BreastScreen NSW and is conducting screening mammograms regularly in the SERH imaging department.
“Screening mammograms are part of the National Australia Program, population screening for well women (no symptoms), is free and no referral is required,” a Southern NSW Local Health District spokesperson said.
BSGS also provides SERH with the mammography machine to conduct diagnostic mammograms in the hospital for women who have a symptom (breast lump).
These women are referred to the service by their general practitioner for the purpose of diagnosis.
“There is a small number of women who require access to this service,” the spokesperson said.
“A plan is in place to continue diagnostic mammography services at SERH from the 28th of February.”
