Flowers among chocolates and cards are the most popular gifts on Valentine’s Day. Ms Fleet believes the day is is all about sharing the love.
“It’s about sharing the love not only with your partner but your friends and family who spread love too,” she said.
Merimbula News Weekly took to the streets of Merimbula to see if any lovebirds were about, and asked what their Valentines Day is going to look like tomorrow.

What do you think of Valentine’s Day?
“Well, I have never really celebrated it. This year I have decided to make it fun,” she said.
How are you spending Valentine’s Day?
“I have organised with a group of girlfriends to prepare Valentine’s Day jelly shots, we have planned a dinner where couples aren’t allowed and will then we will all go out on Friday night.”
What’s the perfect Valentine's Day gift?
“I have never been given one, but a new car would be nice,” she laughed.
Gerrard and Jackie McKearney, Tura Beach
How will you both spend Valentine's Day?
"We went out for lunch today because we will both be working tomorrow," Mrs McKearney said.
What is Valentine's Day about to you?
"It's about sharing love, although you shouldn't need an excuse to," she said.
"It's just another commercialised day I think," Mr McKearney said.
What's the best or worst Valentine's Day gift you had received?
"I can tell you my best gift was also my worst, I was given two dozen long stem roses which were the most beautiful thing but then they died the next day. They weren't bought from anywhere around here, I guessed they had been frozen," Mrs McKearney said.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
“I haven’t put in too much thought, but I will cook my husband a really nice dinner,” she said.
What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day?
“I think it’s lovely for the young ones, and for the matters of the heart. Even after 50 years of marriage I think it can still be something special,” she said.
What’s the perfect Valentine’s gift?
“Any gift chosen by him,” she chuckled, “diamonds would be nice”.
Ervino and Merram Bertolin, Cooma
How will you be spending Valentine’s Day?
“After being married for 52 years, we have no plans. We will do whatever we feel like doing, it’s just another day,” Mrs Bertolin said.
Why don’t you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
“I am not a great believer because it is very commercialised, although it is nice to see that it has a lot of meaning to other people.
“Also, it’s Ervino’s birthday today so it’s a bit much to celebrate both days,” she laughed.
Chris and Tom Ridley, Campbelltown
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
“We have no plans at all,” Mr Ridley said.
”We are waiting for friends to arrive so we will wait to see what they want to do,” Mrs Ridley said.
What is the best Valentine’s Day gift?
“When I have been given a gift, it has been flowers,” Mrs Ridley said.

How are you both spending Valentine’s Day?
“We went out for dinner at Santa Fe last night because we have to work tomorrow, but we might be able to go out for lunch on our lunch break,” Ms Tasker said.
What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day?
“I love it, it’s a day where you can get away with being all gushy,” Ms Tasker said.
"It's an entire 24 hours where you can shove it in people's faces."
What’s the ideal gift for Valentine’s Day?
“Besides flowers and chocolates I think it’s the best to have a nice romantic dinner together,” Mr Boundy said.
