Ms Kelly said at first she thought the box was just rubbish. After taking a closer look she saw their were two compartments, one which was locked and another that was “chock” full of syringes.
Ms Kelly swiftly put the box into the nearest rubbish bin. However she urged people to be cautious when walking along Aslings Beach.
“The box was covered in barnacles so it has obviously washed up from the ocean. The main lid was open and so there could be plenty more needles lying around the shore or hidden in the sand,” Ms Kelly said.
Bega Valley Shire Council has said anyone who notices litter including needles in a public area is encouraged to contact council on (02) 6499 2222.
