Shortly before 2pm emergency services were called to Mount Darragh Rd, approximately 3km west its intersection with the Princes Hwy, after reports a cement truck and a Mitsubishi Mirage sedan had collided.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Mirage, a 45-year-old Nethercote man, died at the scene.
The driver of the cement truck, a 59-year-old Cooma man, was uninjured. He was taken to the South East Regional Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from the South Coast Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Mount Darragh Rd is closed in both directions.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to come forward.

3.45PM: A truck crash on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 22 has closed Mount Darragh Rd.
Speaking at 3.45pm on the day, a police spokesperson said the crash occurred 3kms west of the Princes Hwy intersection and only involved one truck at that stage.
They said diversions were occurring and police, ambulance and firies were at the scene.
