The mother (Mabulu) had never bred before, and we werent sure if she was capable, Ms Whitton said.
A young stallion has created a bit of competition in the herd with an older stallion, and gave him some motivation. It can be very difficult getting a group with males and females that are suitable for each other, so this is very exciting.
Ms Whitton said the pregnancy was an easy one for Mabulu.
She looked fantastic through her pregnancy her coat was really shiny, she was very healthy, Ms Whitton said.
She gave birth overnight, which is usual.
Ms Whitton said the new family was doing well.
Were not sure (if its a boy or a girl) yet we have to get close enough to see, she said.
Mum is very protective, and Dad bridges the gap between the two groups hes looking after her and protecting her.
Although no one has been able to get close enough to determine whether the foal is a boy or a girl, Mabulu and her foal can be viewed by visitors with the rest of the herd.
She is out and about, playing and drinking, Ms Whitton said.
