After an absence of 16 years, artist and author Katherine Boland has returned to the Bega Valley where she lived from 1979 to 2002.

Ms Boland launched her artistic career in 1991 when she held her debut exhibition at Bilyara Gallery in Wallagoot. In both 1999 and 2000 she was awarded first prize in the Bega Valley Art Awards and since that time she has undertaken a number of international artist residencies and exhibited in France, Italy, New York, LA, Turkey and Egypt.
In 2009 Ms Boland won one of Australia's most prestigious art prizes for landscape – the Heysen Art Prize for Interpretation of Place.
Her memoir, Hippy Days, Arabian Nights, was published by Melbourne publisher Wild Dingo Press in 2017. Documenting her 'alternative lifestyle' in Brogo during the ‘80s and ‘90s, as well as her globetrotting, art-related adventures, it is a funny, moving and compelling story of a woman whose extraordinary life is without could-or-should-haves.
Ms Boland's latest exhibition, a response to witnessing the devastation caused by the Tathra bushfire, will be held in conjunction with local artists Cheryl Davison and Joy Georgeson at Ivy Hill Gallery from January 17 to February 17.

Ms Boland will donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of her artwork to the Mayoral Appeal Fund set up to assist the Tathra and district community after the fire.
