The association is encouraging every club to seek their own registrations and put forward teams, but spokesman Charles Aggenbach said signs were already strong that at least six teams would take part.
“Any females over 14 are welcome to play and the early talk is about six teams showing interest so far,” Aggenbach said.
He said most interest had come from regions with nearby football clubs and the association was finding that women’s players were looking for opportunities to compete all-year-round.
“We’re seeing more and more they’re looking to play sports throughout the summer and a number of those [already registered[ are capable players.”
The competition is set to launch on February 3 and run over seven weeks which will see it parallel the men’s draw until a final on March 31 finishes the season.
The men’s final will be held on March 30, with junior play finishing up on the same weekend.
Aggenbach said he was thrilled by the initial response to the fledgling competition.
“If you had said to me five years ago there would be a women’s competition up and running, I think most of the committee and myself would have said ‘yeah, keep dreaming’ but the early interest is phenomenal,” he said.

“Women’s codes are on the rise and again it’s that opportunity to play year-round.”
In the regular top division draw, play is set to resume this weekend after washouts impeded play for a lot of the opening rounds.
“From an association standpoint it is unfortunate that we have had a lot of games called off because of bad weather,” Aggenbach said.
“As a player we are pretty keen to get back on the pitch, and now it’s the second half of the season it’s all about who is really hungry to play finals cricket.”
He said the competition is fairly close with about five teams vying for the top spots right now ahead of the A and B grade split into a finals series.
Play resumes on Saturday with six matches to go ahead from 1pm.
