Visitors and locals brought deck chairs and a beverage to the lake’s edge to enjoy the live music and a BBQ.
Lori and Gerry Hammerton were surprised to receive a life membership to Bega Valley Can Assist for their outstanding support.
Over the eight years Ms Hammerton has run her Tai Chi for arthritis program, more than $17,000 has been raised for Can Assist.
“We really weren’t expecting it, we just keep on doing what we do,” Ms Hammerton said.
Ms Hammerton buzzed about the afternoon, stepping in to sing and play the ukulele with her “muso friends.”
“Everyone loves coming and supporting Can Assist, because they know that every single cent goes to those who are cancer affected in the Bega Valley,” Ms Hammerton said.
Talented local artists donated their time to perform, as well as not-for-profit organisations of the Bermagui area attended to support and raise funds for Can Assist.
“Whenever we get an opportunity to engage with the community, we do,” Lewis Gaha of Bermagui RFS said.
“There are people here who are in multiple volunteer groups, there are members of the firies who are also from the Men’s Shed, then members of the firey’s and surf club – that’s the kind of community Bermagui is.”
