“I bumped into [Member for Bega] Andrew Constance at Dignams Creek and said I need a tractor. And I got a tractor,” Merrimans Local Aboriginal Land Council CEO Terry Hill said. 

After the meeting four months ago, Mr Constance sent a submission to the premier who made a one-off grant possible of $9300 to purchase the vehicle. 

“The issue on our community here is safety,” Mr Hill said.

“That’s safety in terms of bushfires. The other issue I’ve got here is snakes, keeping the grass down so snakes aren’t getting through and posing a threat to the community.

“So we needed a tractor slasher.” 

Mr Constance said the purchase was made to look after the Wallaga Lake community and he thanked Mr Hill for his work.

“It’s about protecting and safeguarding without a doubt a wonderful community,” he said. 

“It will also just improve the amenity of the village for everyone.”
