Scenes of what looked like snow on the ground in the Bega Valley on Sunday may have made some residents think were in for a White Christmas.

But it was actually the result of a severe storm cell that tore through the Valley in the afternoon, covering the ground, homes and cars in hail stones and causing damage around the region.
"It would be the biggest, heaviest hail I've seen out there for 19 years," Helen Slater, who lives south of Bega, said.
"It was extremely noisy, but my little dog didn't even blink an eyelid.
"Luckily I couldn't find any damage to the property afterwards.
"Normally hail is round, and they were so big I heard of people putting them in their wine glasses."
