The majority of residents don’t want it as shown by the lack of residents putting their support of this development in writing into places like this paper. If they are supporting it why not make it public?
The council has already said no and so has Andrew Constance, although I am a little each way on Andrew. He is the former transport minister and the current Infrastructure Minister. Surely in the corridors of power in Macquarie St he wields some kind of influence over this whole debacle.
What is also interesting is the developer seems prepared to go into a long very expensive court case to get their way. Your average developer couldn’t afford that.
Chinese investors already own large tracts of Australian land, some ports and who knows what else. It would seem all levels of government don’t want to get our biggest trading partner offside.
Also interesting are all the current issues around people buying up all our baby formula. Bega has a huge amount of vacant land with a lot of dairies.
Is the flight school a small step in a much bigger plan for our pristine environmentally friendly Bega Shire?

Kindness of strangers
After an amazing hike south along the beautiful coast line from Bithry Inlet, in the chaos accompanying packing up with a tired, hungry, screeching one year old in tow, we left a camera on top of a post in the car park at Middle Beach, Mimosa Rocks National Park. Next day we realised the camera was missing. We searched to no avail, finally calling the local police station – Yes! The camera had been handed in! How heart warming to know there are caring, honest, kind people in the community, who took the trouble to return it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Economic opportunity
Cam Stewart has aired concerns about the cost of renewable energy (BDN, 14/12).
According to the Australian Energy Market Operator, renewable energy will be the "lowest-cost future energy source" in a report published in July of this year. It will be the lowest cost energy source, even when you take into account the cost of battery or pumped-hydro energy storage
Not only that, but renewable energy leads to jobs and investment in regional areas like SE NSW. Renewable energy is a huge economic opportunity for SE NSW.

Deniers of truth
I wish to provide some support for Cam Stewart (BDN, 14/12). I believe he will unfairly receive vitriol in response.
We still have well-meaning and genuine people among us who have simply accepted the views on climate change in good faith. Some very rudely accuse and label others as “deniers” for recognising climate change has always been with us. They, in fact, are the “deniers” who, very rudely and damagingly, fail to recognise we are puny Earth dwellers clinging to the fragile crust over a “fire ball” that is spinning through space at enormous speed in accordance with the laws of nature.
We can deal with pollution – but climate change is another matter.

Action on abalone thieves
Can you advise if any charges have been laid in regard to the seizure of such a large quantity of abalone recently reported? Also names of the “alleged” perpetrators.
We are talking thousands of dollars here, and the public would like to see some serious action taken. In particular, as this product is never sold to the general public, who buys the illegal abalone? Sure we would all like to know.
